Paying the price to look good
Last fall I attended my first "botox party". A very reputable Dr. from Boulder agreed to come to a friend's house and set up shop, so to speak. I felt super comfortable with the situation and agreed to have 15 units injected into the muscles that create my frown line between my eyes. I LOVED it! I felt like it just made me look a little more "youthful" again. Over the past year, I have graduated from 15 units in one area of my forehead, to 26-28 units in my forehead and above/next to my eyes. If you have never had botox, this probably seems like a lot. Trust me, it's not! I have seen women that get twice that amount injected into the same areas. I am not completely sure about the science behind it, but I think it has something to do with the strength of your facial muscles. My muscles apparently don't need as much coaxing into paralysis. Therefore, less botox for me. I still have slight movement, but my forehead no longer looks like an accordion. I like it, it suits me. And I am not ashamed of it either.
So, I go every 3-4 months and freshen up. My dream would be to travel to Hermosa Beach, CA where my friend, Kim, works at this amazing office (SkinMedix) and have her take care of all of my skin care needs. But, until I win the Mega Millions, I have to find an office here, in Denver, that I like. Soooo...last Wednesday, I went to yet another "party". This one was held at a beautiful, spa-like office in Cherry Creek. There were 12 girls all waiting to walk into an exam room and to be injected with "liquid gold". After getting my injections, I decided to talk to one of the skin care specialists about my frequent breakouts. She recommended a product by Jan Marini, I was familiar with most of the ingredients, and home I went with a little spring in my step. Yay for beautiful and youthful skin!!
Until 2 days later...when I realized I was having a miserable allergic reaction to something contained in the $100 product I had put on my face!! Oh my! Bumps, red & itchy face...not my idea of beautiful/youthful skin. After a phone call to the office, and a confirmation that it is indeed an allergic reaction, the only thing to do now is wait...wait for this bumpy, red, peely, itchy skin to heal...on my face!
Ahhh, the price of beauty and another lesson learned! I would post a picture of my skin, but I just might be a little too vain for you to see me like this...
*(a quick note about Jan Marini products, they are fabulous...I just happen to be a rare case)
